Halong’s Cruises Reopen After Severe Tropical Storm Haiyan
[:en]The renowned tourist destination Halong Bay was finally attacked directly by the Severe Tropical Storm Haiyan instead of Central provinces as predicted. Reported as the biggest storm over years which hit Vietnam, Haiyan threatened to damage local houses, tourism facilities and properties. With the gusts of up to 157km/h (98 mph), Haiyan forced nearly 900,000 people to evacuate from regions at risk. Reports say at least 13 people have been killed and 81 injured in Vietnam due to the storm. According to local residents, this is the strongest storm they have ever witnessed in Halong city. While the storm was attacking the city, power was cut, wind was too strong and sky was crazily frightened by thunders and lightning.
All local and tourist boats on Halong Bay had evacuated to safe area since 6.am, tourist boats took travelers back to the land for urgent evacuation. Thanks to quick reactions to cope with the historic storm of Quang Ninh authority, travel agents and cruise companies, no guest is damaged by the storm.
After 2 days of evacuation to avoid Haiyan Storm (10, 11 November), all tourist cruises have returned to welcome guests as normal on 12 November.
